Principals' Message

Hello Porter Families!

We hope all of our Porter families are doing well!  A decision was made last December to begin the first ten weeks of the second semester alternating between our full remote and in-person, hybrid schedules.  Our teachers and staff have done an outstanding job of balancing and planning between two different learning platforms all school year.  We also appreciate the flexibility of our students and families as we try our hardest to provide the best educational opportunities for our students during the pandemic.  It was great to have students and staff back in the building from January 21-February 5!  Shifting back to our full remote schedule allows a build-in quarantine period to help our efforts with needing to quarantine students and staff due to health and safety protocols.  We look forward to welcoming our students back from February 22-March 5 and will communicate soon regarding the schedule for the remainder of the school year.

We have implemented Porter Assistance and Connection Time in both our full remote learning and in-person, hybrid schedules.  This important time allows students the opportunity for extended learning and communication with teachers.  It is important that students and parents understand that the school day goes until 3:00 and teachers can require students to take advantage of these opportunities to have individual and small group instruction.

We are excited about the recent return of IHSA sports and performing arts!  Our winter athletics season has started and we look forward to the opportunities our student-athletes have to compete!  The Porter Players Drama Club recently released the student directed, “Caught in the One Acts,” with commercial breaks from our very own Shower Cap Kids!  Also, our Speech Team advanced three students to sectionals!  Congratulations to junior Julia Berglund, freshman Chelsea Osei, and senior Anise Puckett!   We look forward to more of our sports teams and activities to have the opportunity to practice, meet, and compete!  Please continue to help us with COVID-19 mitigations by wearing masks and carefully considering your social interactions.
Communication is important in building a partnership with our families, especially during this school year with our schedules changing.  Please remember that every Sunday, a principal’s phone message is sent to all of our parents.  The phone call highlights important information and news, as well as the upcoming week’s events.  The messages can also be found on the LTHS website under the Parent tab, by clicking on the Principal’s Weekly Messages link.  We are also encouraging students to continue to check the student splash page for updated information and resources.

Thank you to our families for your continued support this school year!  Please know that we are all committed to providing the best educational and extra-curricular experiences for our students.  We will continue to work hard and look forward to the remainder of the school year!
