While COVID-19 has certainly limited what we have been able to do, the Porter Athletic Family has continued to support each other, connect, and find ways to work! Many of our programs have been meetings virtually to stay connected while small pockets of student-athletes have been able to be on campus working together.
Boys’ Swim and Dive has been working hard to stay ready for the start of their competitive season. Coach Ozbolt, Coach Ferkulak, Coach Krivanec, and Coach Dietz have been working hard with the team and the boys are already showing that competitive spirit putting forth great efforts in their early-season meets thus far. Ryan O’Connor and Matt Johnson are showing the type of leadership and toughness we have come to expect from our boys in the pool over the years! Keep up the great work!
Dance has also been hitting the floor in preparation for some big “virtual” events this winter! A large varsity squad led by first-year head coach Lauren Sanders and a slew of returning dancers such as Shea Vance, Lydia Mutz, Grace Marino, Sarina LoCascio, Julia Fouts, Helene Simmons, Victoria Ehrman, Carli Cocco, and Taylor Bowen look to make some solid scores with a technical and classical approach to their routines!
Our Cheer program opened their season with first-place routines across the board at the Lincoln-Way East Invite! Top scores in freshmen, JV, and Co-ed divisions had the coaches and fans amazed! Jaida Bender, Isabella Giertuga, Marissa Pasco, Elyssa Pickett-Klimek, and Grady Travis have not let the focus slide and continue to lead the way for the Porters!
Girls’ Basketball opened their season with a few tough losses to some SWSC foes, but got back on track with a great team effort this past weekend! Seniors Sydney Furr, Zoe Kladis, Elena Knebel, and Miranda Oesterreich lead a talented mix of players that will continue to improve and compete within a daunting SWSC schedule!
After a difficult opening season task against Homewood Flossmoor, the Porter Boys’ Basketball team bounced back in a big way with back-to-back exciting wins. Matas Deksnys, Scott Szymkowiak, Sam Trafton, and Evangelos Vassilakis have all played valuable minutes with big efforts to help in the two wins. Fellow Senior Brendan Spratt continues to be a great role model for the younger Porters as the boys continue to gel together and look to make some noise in the challenging SWSC Blue division.
Our Bowling programs are both disappointed that there will be no state series because these teams are loaded!! The boys led by Seniors Jim Kontos and Aiden Bean look to shoot some big numbers as the season progresses to a conference tourney. Our defending State Champion Girls and 1st-year head coach Lynda Siezega would have been poised for another great run, but will look to just rack up as many pins as they can throughout the season! Seniors Payton Vandenburg, Grace Sullivan, Chloe Siezega, and Meghan Bacys will continue to provide great leadership for the program through the season.
Our newest Winter sport with the IHSA Changes is Badminton. These girls have been the picture of cooperation, adjusting to the late notice of the season being moved up! The girls have been competing fiercely and winning many of the dual matches they have had. Exceptional senior leadership and commitment make this team one for the ages, regardless of state series events. Seniors Korryn Swedko, Adriana Sosa, Jennifer Sieczka, Justina Piwoni, Miracle McClendon. Shea Maley and Kirsten Adamski have worked so hard and we appreciate all the things they do for our program!
We are working hard to get as many events streamed as possible. At this time we are working on the NFHS Streaming platform which will eventually stream our home events with a free subscription and we are currently also airing events on lthsathletics YouTube, subscribe today!
